R. William Ide

R. William Ide, III, has extensive experience in furthering rule of law in the US and globally. He writes and speaks on how democracy, rule of law and human rights are combined to enable rule of law democracies, not rule by law autocracies. He has served as general counsel to Monsanto, Counselor to the United States Olympic Committee, and President of the American Bar. He chaired the East West Institute Board Executive Committee, serves on the boards of Clark Atlanta University, MetaJure and Rimidi. He is Counsel to the George H.W. Bush Foundation For U.S. China Relations. He served as Chair of the ABA CEELI rule of law program.  He co-chairs the Conference Board ESG Center and is a member of the Carter Center Advisory Board. He is of counsel to  the law firm Akerman LLP, specializes in representing boards of directors, audit committees, and management with special investigations, ethics, corporate governance, crisis management, ESG and strategic advice. He is a former member of the Boards of Directors of Popeyes and Albemarle Corporation. Additionally, Mr. Ide served on the Georgia State University Board of Visitors, Law School. He holds a Juris Doctor from the University of Virginia (Law Review), Master of Business Administration in Finance from Georgia State University and Bachelor’s degree from Washington and Lee University (Cum Laude, Varsity Basketball).
